《GHRM MBA》Alumni Interview_ Duyen Anh from Vietnam

Dear Friends,

We are glad to have our MBA Program alumnus Duyen Anh shared her experience.

Duyen Anh was born and raised in Ho Chi Minh City, which is a beautiful and modern city in Vietnam. She loves playing with her Guinea pig and reading books related to her majors such as Management, Human Resource Development and soft skills. Duyen Anh is currently working as a Training Coordinator at Power Engineering Consulting JSC 2 (PECC2).

Anh’s Bachelor was in Information Management System. Soon after working as a fulltime employee, she realized that her strong interest was in Human Resource. She decided to pursue a Master Degree in Taiwan because of several reasons: “Taiwan has a reputation for their great education system among Asia. This is a really friendly country and the cost of living is affordable. I also had a chance to learn Mandarin”, Duyen Anh explained.

Duyen Anh shared her expressions about the GHRM MBA English program: “I think the best thing about this program is being taught by Prof. Nai-Wen Chi, Prof. David and Prof. Yu-Hsuan Wang, who are awesome professors dedicated in sharing their knowledge and helping their students with thesis”.

Giving some advises to students who are going to graduate from GHRM MBA/ IBMBA, Duyen Anh suggested that students should participate in activities, which are held by the Students Association and Colleague because this is the easiest way to get more friends and make connections. She mentioned that 2nd year is a good time to start working on the thesis and having the guidance from the supervisors. “By continuing the education to gain the skills and knowledge, people will succeed in their dream profession”, Duyen Anh said.

Interview_Sacha Deloras

Dear Friends,

Mr. Sasha from Grenoble, in the French Alps is our current GHRM English MBA Program student is sharing his story.

Sasha has graduated from Applied Foreign Languages (English and Spanish) & Economics bachelor at Grenoble Alpes University, and had an exchange program at University of Nottingham, where he has met his girlfriend. Together they decided to stay in Nottingham and to attend NTU’s Business School for master’s in International Business and chose Taiwan’s NSYSU for dual degree in Global Human Resources Management English Program. Despite learning about study at NSYSU quite late, they grabbed a chance to study HRM and visit Asia, a part of the world Sasha always wanted to go but never had the chance.

“I was part of the Dual Degree, coming from NTU. My colleagues, Grazia Spiga, Karen Mkhithika, Yi-Ting Liu, and Chloé Tiozzo, were part of the first cohort to choose NSYSU. It was quite a bumpy ride initially, especially administratively (visas, driving license for example, and simply the fact that we were going to the other side of the world so it has to be done seriously and be well prepared) , but we got amazing support back at NTU, especially from our course leader Dr. Ofelia Palermo, and our subject administrator, Ms. Charlotte Wix. But it was 1000 times worth the hassle! Then, at NSYSU, it couldn’t have been done without the amazing support from Cindy and Natasha at the GHRM office. They were always present for us, and even helped when we had to change house in the middle of the semester. I could never thank them enough and they made our time in Taiwan as special and unforgettable as they could! Academically, it was challenging to meet both universities deadlines sometimes, but in the end, it was very enriching as well and set us up for success!”

Sasha’s favorite subject was Cross-Cultural Management with Dr. David McConville. “I have always been into travelling and discovering new cultures, so it was great to learn the science behind it. It was also very pertinent regarding our current situation as we were actually discovering a new culture in Taiwan.“

Since graduating Sasha has found a job as a Business Development Representative at Finastra in London. Finastra is a banking software provider. Formed in 2017 by the combination of Misys and D+H, Finastra helps Financial Institutions grow their business, increase revenues, and capture new opportunities, by supporting them in their digital transformation initiatives, automating their processes, and achieving compliance and risk efficiency. “As a Business Development Executive, I am accountable for building pipeline on all Lines of Business across France & Benelux, Eastern Europe, and Baltic countries. Thanks to dual degree with NTU/NSYSU I have considerably increased my chances to find a good job. I found my first one, Credit-Controller for an Apparel & Fashion Multinational company in Nottingham even before graduating. Then I moved to London to work in accounting for a ski company, and then landed my dream job at Finastra in an industry that I am passionate about.”

During his days in Kaohsiung Sasha liked the fact that he could wear shorts and flip-flops and ride his scooter as it was summer every day. “It was summer from February, when all my friends were under the snow back home! The set-up of the university is amazing, very open, on the beach, and there are monkeys! Kaohsiung is an amazing city I had no clue about, it was a discovery every day, from the Sky Tower, to Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple, the Love River and the Dragon and Tiger pagodas. Kenting is also a “short” scooter ride away. The food was an amazing discovery of course! The night markets (take Yi-Ting with you for the best experiences ahah), the best sushi restaurant ever (上漁屋壽司-慶豐新店) and of course, not to forget about Din-Tai Fung! I came back to Europe slightly heavier ahah. My main hobbies are alpine skiing, travelling and food 😊 (many amazing culinary discoveries in Taiwan!)”

Sasha highly recommends other students to come to study at NSYSU, as it is one of the best and most enriching experiences of his life, both academically and personally. “You will make memories and friendships for a lifetime! Just be a minimum prepared, know what you have to do and how administratively and go. I would be glad to do it all over again from the start if I could.”

Maya Thesis Competition Awards

August 3rd, 2019

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

We are very glad to share good news with you!

GHRM English MBA Alumna Maya has won awards in two Thesis Competitions:

1. 12th TSC Taiwan Thesis Competition(2019 TSC第12屆崇越論文大賞暨第4屆崇越行銷大賞頒獎典禮)–Excellent Master Thesis Award

2. 2019 Fubon Thesis Competition(2019富邦人壽管理博碩士論文獎)–Award for Outstanding Performance in the Category of Human Resource Management and Organization Theory.

Students from all over Taiwan have been submitting their works and waiting for the results. The competitions are two stage process – as soon as the first-round results were announced, students were invited to give a presentation of the manuscripts. Final results were announced during the Award Ceremony, which took place in Taipei on 3rd of August 2019 (it is interesting that both Ceremonies are held on the same day (12th TSC Taiwan Thesis Competition Award Ceremony in the morning and 2019 Fubon Thesis Competition in the afternoon). It was surprising for participants that President Tsai Ing-wen joined the opening of Award Ceremony and gave a speech.

Maya has graduated from GHRM English MBA Program last month (July 2019) and had a chance to submit her Master Thesis titled: “Being proactive when your coworkers are not happy: Exploring the moderating roles of proactive personality and self-control capacity.” for participation in the above-mentioned Thesis Competitions.

Maya has joined GHRM English MBA Program at NSYSU in September 2017 and has been actively working on her research. Within 2 years of Master Program Maya achieved high performance and some academic milestones:

- in December 2018 she presented a paper in the 32nd Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management (ANZAM) Conference in the Organizational Behavior Delivery Stream and the paper won 2 Awards: “ANZAM Conference Best Paper in OB Stream” and “ANZAM Conference Best Paper”.

-  she also became an honorary member of the Phi Tau Phi Scholastic Honor Society of Taiwan as one of the students who achieved academic excellence by the time of graduation.

Maya decided to stay at NSYSU for PhD Program at Graduate Institute of Human Resource Management. She is fond of research and looking forward to more challenges in her academic career, as she wants to make contribution to research based on her working experience and inspiration, she got from her studies at NSYSU.

Asking Maya on her participation, she replied with very heartwarming answer: “I have spent a lot of time developing the research framework, doing literature review and collecting the data. The method I chose is not the easiest one. It also was not an easy task to finish writing thesis before the Competitions deadline, preparing for Thesis Oral Defense and final exams, but I knew it is a great opportunity to get acknowledgement of my work by Taiwanese Scholars and tried my best to fulfill this task. It all wouldn’t be possible without guidance and support of my Advisor Professor Nai-Wen Chi, as he inspired me with his own example of hard work and aspiration for research. He has encouraged and invigorated me to apply for participation in these Thesis Competitions. It was an honor for me to represent NSYSU and GHRM English MBA Program and present my paper in the Competitions. I have received a lot of nice feedback, questions and comments from Competitions Committee Members and feel even more inspired to continue my research as Institute of Human Resource Management PhD student at NSYSU. I would like to thank my Advisor Professor Chi Nai Wen for his guidance and support, Director Sharon Wang and Ms. Cindy Lin - GHRM English MBA Program Coordinator and other staff for their kind support though my studies and whole National Sun Yat-sen University for welcoming me and providing with resources and knowledge!”

We are very glad that our students achieve such high standards and represent GHRM English MBA Program and NSYSU in the country level Competitions winning highest awards. We encourage our students to work hard on their research, try a lot of opportunities and constantly challenge their limits!

Interview_Marc

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Today we are providing an interview with one of our recent alumni Mr. Marc Hermanski.

Marc is originally from Germany, he is Taiwanese from maternal side and German from father’s side. Mr. Hermanski has spent his entire childhood in Germany and worked for a couple of months in China after undergraduate studies. This working experience lit up interest to get to know more about maternal routes and Marc decided to come to southern Taiwan for master’s degree. He had several interviews with some universities and decided to study at NSYSU’s GHRM English MBA Program, because it was the best fit. “Environment of the campus is wonderful, everyone is super friendly, willing to help and everything is really convenient, moreover the diverse group of students are making up a great study environment” – Marc recalls those good times we spent together at NSYSU.

As Marc knew Chinese to some extent before he came to Taiwan it was not a great challenge for him, but he still attended the free Chinese classes NSYSU offered and would highly recommend, because “the NSYSU Chinese Language Center is doing a great job in teaching. The provided materials that are easy to follow. Keep on track and try to speak and go to places where you are forced to talk Chinese”.

Marc has obtained our GHRM MBA degree this January, 2019 and is now back to Germany, as he has already found a job at BLUFIXX GmbH in the chemical industry. His job as a business development manager is it to find new market opportunities as well as consult the CEO in any strategic question.

We appreciate Marc’s desire to share his experience and wish him success in all occasions.
