/Before joining the GHRM MBA at NSYSU, I really had to consider the question: “What need do I have for a master’s degree?” I came to realize that in order to reach the next tier within my career, I needed to be better. Better prepared, better skilled, better informed… just better. Thus, I joined the GHRM MBA. Upon meeting the other students, it was apparent that I was older than most of them, but it wasn’t awkward at all. They were all friendly and welcoming. Each of them had their own backgrounds and stories to share. The office staff were exceptionally supportive and helpful. The professors were knowledgeable and patient. And the scenery was amazing! I had found a great place to continue my education.
The largest challenge for me, during the first year, was time. I was juggling a full-time job, wife and kid, several side projects that I was committed to, and three or four classes per semester. It took some late nights and skipping several lunch breaks at work in order to keep up. But, in the end, it was worth it. I am a big proponent of “skilling up.” And I can honestly say that I learned more about HR in those two semesters than I could possibly have on my own in two years.
The classes often place an emphasis on practical skill enhancement. From organizational theory to strategic management, this allows students to acquire and practice skills that are actually useful within the workplace. Sure, the thesis is difficult to write, but it is also aimed at giving invaluable experience. Professors, staff, and fellow students are also available to provide tips and advice to help you along.
I genuinely appreciate the time that I have spent at NSYSU and the people I have come to know here. It will remain one of my favored experiences for all time.
